    Default Winter Project-Penn Greenie

Hey everyone...just thought I'd throw this up here...every winter I usually come up with some weird winter project to keep me busy...This winter I want to get my hands on an old Penn Greenie. I've seen on a few other forums what guys have been doing to them. They call them "Penn-Staal". Like the reel Van Staal. I was just wondering if anyone has ever taken on a project like this. I'll probably start after the new year..I'm currently bidding on a few greenies on Ebay. When I start this project, I'll keep ya updated with pics if anyone is interested. Here are a few examples of what I found.

Wow, they look awesome in the end. A lil bit of work but im sure there solid as old penns go with a fraction of the price of a van staal. Plus a definite cool factor

Weirdest place i ever saw a van staal in action was at the spillway at pymatuning. Probably a $1000 Van staal/st croix combo to catch carp haha. The guy was from Philly and i noticed his reel and was like wow man....thats a van staal! He was suprised i had even heard of it haha

Been doing a little more research on the Greenies and 2nd generation spinfishers..the higher the model number, the smaller the reel is..so a penn 700 is actually their biggest reel..its a med to heavy saltwater reel. The 716, 720 and 722 were for light salt and freshwater. Anything with a Z after the number is a 2nd generation model which is black and gold.

Van Staal reels are a popular reel among surf casters. There on the high end of the spectrum, but there's a reason behind it. The reel is completely sealed and the inner workings are waterproof. There made to get dunked. Check em out www.vanstaal.com

Update: This morning at 7:45am, I just won a Penn 710 on ebay. $21 bucks. After losing a few bids and falling asleep on a few others, I can finally get ready to start this Penn~Staal project. More pics to come once I get it. These are the pics from the auction:
