Open Water in New Jersey

Bruce Edward Litton
Our neighborhood bass pond in Bedminster NJ, at the foot of the Highlands, is open. This when we ice fish Lake Hopatcong tomorrow. I see this happen almost every spring--small, shallow ponds open up with bass vulnerable to a Rebel Minnow just barely twitched on the surface, when ice fishermen still run after tip-up flags just up the road. If you care to read more about early season largemouth, Litton's Fishing Lines has some good posts. I'll try to post something about our ice fishing adventure tomorrow in the forum.
