Default Vintage Bass Flies...

Here's what I've been doing for the past two weeks between snow blowing, stacking firewood, filling orders for Joseph's Lures, etc. Collector I know wanted one of each of fourteen Bass Flies as listed in a 1916 lure catalog for WTJ Lowe, Buffalo NY! Some took as many as four tries to "get right"! Hardest part was finding all the materials! The Silver Doctor alone has 13 different materials and 18 different parts to put together! These are bigger flies, used for Bass fishing back then. Finished the last one today and I'm pleased. There's no end to the pleasure that "tying you own" can bring! Enjoy yourselves! Best---- JoeW

Very nice. That Silver Doctor is a busy little sucker isn't he?

Good grief ! You picked the meanest silver doctor on the planet to do. Absolutely magnificent on all of them. If somebody asks me to do those , I'm just going to scream and run. For a short fat boy I can still pick them up and put them down. WHEN I'M SCARED.

Thanks dug, and yea- he's going to display them only. He can't afford to buy them to fish with! Those are all the old style, vintage Bass flies- they don't make them like that anymore- I used a 1890's catalog and a 1932 book as references. Like toad, I'm finding things to do until fishin' starts here-- mid-march maybe. Envy you guys that can get out on the water! Best---- JoeW

Default Vintage Fly Lures...

Here's a pic from the guy that wanted me to tie those Bass flies for him. He added them to some 1890's WTJ Lowe spinners he had. This IS the way they looked in the old catalog-- a lot better than just bare hooks, as they're usually found. Look real nice- HIS lures + MY flies! Best----- JoeW

LOL! They did their job 120 years ago- I think they deserve a "retirement"- all dressed up again & hangin' nice and safe and dry in a collection to be displayed. Old tackle is beautiful! Best------ JoeW
