I too am looking for sonar or fish finder what ever you want to call it. I have been looking at some Hummingbird and some Lowrance models. Anyone have any? Or know anything about these things?

I have a Lowrance x67c and I am very pleased with it. I use it for Ice Fishing and Soft water Fishing. I never leave home without it. It is another tool that can be used in the Great Sport known as Fishing.

I'm not tied to the humminbird, although that bis what I'm most familiar with...I'd really like a portable, as I only have a 14' aluminum boat and would prefer to be able to dismount the unit when its stored in the yard.

I can use mine for both...on the boat and with a battery on the Ice. A majority of them today can be used this way. Its all in what you want to spend and you will hear Fisherman swear that what they use is the best. I bought the x67c cause I got a great deal.

I have an Eagle 320c unit on my boat. I really like the color readout much better than monochrome. And it is easily removed from it's mount. I always keep it with my fishing tackle and only attach it to the mount before pulling out of the driveway.

On my small boat, a 10 foot flatbottom jon, I mounted a Humminbird transducer onto a short board ( about a 1 1/2 foot piece of 1 by 4 ) The screen I mounted onto a 6 inch piece of 1 by 4. Then I attach it to the boat with a C clamp. Power it with a small motorcycle battery and it becomes in effect a portable. It's worked great for years.
