These are both Eger Bait Co. lures from Bartow, Florida circa 1940-50. Both of these are heavy sinking lures. Ya gotta love the names!
Top one was called the "Convict" because of the "chain" along the back and the number "9999" on the sides! Supposedly, 9999 was the number John Dillinger wore while in prison! Lower lure is in a color that Eger called "Christmas Tree"- complete with all the ornaments and even silver glitter, like tinsel, scattered along the sides! Love the oldies! And as I always say "Every old lure has a story to tell"! Hope you enjoyed. Best---- JoeW |

A lot of fishermen I know fish the old tyme lures, but usually only the beat up one's! Around here, an old wooden jointed Pikie is always worth $10 at flea markets no matter how beat up because the Niagara River Musky fishermen cherish them! Personally, I wouldn't go out on Bass or Pike water without a few old, wooden Creek Chub Injured Minnows in my box-- NOT the newer plastic ones (they don't behave right!), but the old wooden ones!
There are some tournaments I'm aware of, where the fishermen must use tackle no newer that 1940! (Except lines- but they have to be braided lines). That's rod, reel, and lures all made before 1940! I have a couple old outfits like that, but the reels are no level-wind, no anti-backlash, no adjustments, etc. My "best cast" so far is a whopping 32 feet! Those old timers REALLY had to be skillful! Best---- JoeW |

Nice... tournaments like that would be fun... especially seeing what other people have! 32 feet? Not bad!

Those are some funny names. But the lures look good.

The Christmas tree lure looks very similar to the Smithwick Devil's Horse lure still in production.
