Default 1950's Tarpon Fishing!~

Man! never caught one- never even seen one! Anyone ever hook up with a Tarpon?

And this was done with a 1950's Shakespeare Wonder Rod- one of the earliest tubular fiberglass rods that actually worked! I gotta move to Florida!~ Best---- JoeW

I've caught and realeased over a hundred in my life, hooked and had them spit it at me a couple of hundred more times its like catching a race car going the other way, tremendos head shakes and boy can they catch air and pull like a mule fun fun fun fish. I would suggest everyone put that fish on their bucket list!!

When ever I see them caught on a fishing show. they are always put back.
Are they no good to eat ?? it seems there would be a lot of good meat on a fish
like that. Or are they like pike full of bones?

I sure would like to hook into one looks like a lot of fun.

I have caught a few while snook fishing, a couple using a 10 weight fly rod with Pflueger Medalist 1498 reel with 150 yards backing. They're awesome game fish. Very bony, no one eats tarpon. Never caught huge ones, 20 pound range fish only.

Didn't Ted Williams fish for them passionately using bamboo rods back in the 40's and 50's?

I have an 8 wt. Wonder Rod from the 70's. Swapped a bait casting rod 'n reel for it. I think I came out ahead on that trade.

Used to pick up an occasional ladyfish while snook fishing too. Talk about jumpers!
