Toad-

How do you feel these compare with the plastic baits in terms of durability? I know the Crappie will shred the plastic very quickly...

Nice jigs, btw.

Nice jigs, btw.
They will last as long as 90 fish on one lure .When I was in business that was a common no. to catch on my jigs.I made them with my own scent formula impregnated in the jig as well . Plastics are not as durable as you know but since the CNC multi spindle machine was developed to make molds they can be made in every size shape or style you can imagine and are faster to put together .On the other hand you get a work of art with a tied jig hand crafted . Most times in a pattern that you choose not a mass produced color range hyped up for sales . You see a lot of jigs tied and plastic that have synthetic eyes and all that stuff . I honestly haven't been able to determine that eyes make a difference but each to his own . I'll make up one to day and post a pic .

Common 1/8 OZ tie 1950 0r so palmer mold chub head , EC American made hook no. 2 1970 stock , Wapsi varigated chenille , buck tail fly .This won't come apart . If you don't loose it or beat on rocks You can keep it until the hair rots out. Put a little vegetable oil on the fly tail for long storage to prevent rot. All hair dries out and becomes brittle over time . Friends of mine have jigs I made 20 years ago doing that.

new jig made old school. Now that is a class act. I do not know anywhere or any one
except you Toadfrog who makes jigs like this. I can say one thing, your jig plastics do indeed hold up.
I have one I have caught at least 30 fish on. some of them were nice size and the others went back to grow up. I have a lot of store bought jig tubes that last 2 or 3 fish at best. very good top quality work. you are a true craftsman.

Thanks my friend , If you want those store bought jigs to stand up better I can tell you how to do it . Squirt a little WD 40 in the bag .Squeeze them around lay them in the sun for an hour or two . Bring them in let them cool take them fishing the next day . WD 40 works as an attractant as well . It changes the chemical matrix of the plastic to give it a little more stretching power before it breaks . Handy when you are fighting off tail grabbers.

Wd-40 as a fish attractant. Wow you really can do anything with that stuff.
