Default Finely went fishing

It has been quite a while since I wet a line so last Friday I tied on a Whopper Plopper and headed out to Katherine's Landing on Lake Mojave. I was going to fish iff of the dock but there was a handicapped couple there so I fished off of the point. I had to be careful as my balance is not super.
Anyway I fished a couple of small area and did catch one fish. it jumped four times, looked like it was spinning in the air. When I got it ashore I found that the rear hook of the lure was up inside of the gills, lots of blood before I could get it unhooked so I gave it to the couple on the dock. they appreciated the fish.
I wish I could have released the fish, a largemouth. I will remember those jumps for a long time.
I fished a little after that but as I got darker I had to think of the terrain, I didn't want risk falling.
I wonder if there is something to do to reduce the chance of getting one hooked up inside the gills like that. I may do some hook changes just to see.

Tight lines my friends

Don't think I'll be doing any fishing this year. Maybe by my birthday in April.

I may go as a non contestant to the ACCA Fall Catfish Derby in 8 days. I'm boatless at present.

I got hammered with rush work today so I probably will not go next weekend. I need the income.
