LOL! I could see Toad sitting in a cell, busy making jigs and lures! They'd call him "The lure man of alcatraz"! Best---- JoeW

U prolly can't use them but I have a habit of picking up intact Tarpon scales on Boca Grande Beach. When the Tarpon run starts in April the beach is littered with them. They are rather purty-to me anyway, so I pick them up with the rest of my early morning goodies brought to shore by early tide. They are very big-for scales that is-at least 2" x 2". If you have a use for them I'll bring back a bag next time I'm down there. My next trips just a few weeks away.......and I CAN"T WAIT@!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gulf temps have been real warm this winter and my brother's been surf fishing every other day and I'm getting reaaaal sick of his constant pictures and bragging rights. It's my turn to be there and bag some nice flounder or pompano!!! Grrrrrr............ Happy Monday everyone-)

I'll be glad to collect a bagful for you. I'll need to start the cure as soon as I get back to house after collecting them on the beach otherwise they start to curl and stink. I can send them to you when they are pretty well cured. Catching a tarpon for a lot of people is a big deal and they are usually a catch and release fish=at least in the area where I fish. My father has held the record for biggest tarpon caught in Boca Grande Pass since mid-80s and I've got a copy of the video they took of him bringing that puppy in-it took Forever-) But what a memory eh? Of course he also had that bad boy mounted and it now hangs in my brothers house in Florida. Ok I digress as usual..... It's tradition to take a scale from your tarpon, and some part of your gear used to catch it along with a couple of pictures and mount them all in a frame so you have a permanent record of one of the most spectacular days of your life. I have people who, for a small fee & cost of shipping, have me cure and mount their scales and gear along with their photos in a nice frame (3 dimensional) along with some sand and a small sand dollar or some other momento of their trip and it makes a very nice keepsake of a great time. So yeah I"ll get on that as soon as I hit the beach. I"ll try to get some back to you after Walleye Season opens in Minnesota in mid May okay? Have a great day -) |

Since this is still on the board I decided to bring the subject back up . Now about those scales . I had an epiphany . I think I can make a spinner blade out of them . Yep that's what I said . By golly I bet it would work .
