So, why should you fish? I do it because it gives me a place to get away from the city and enjoy the fresh air.

Feel free to add to the topic on why you enjoy fishing.

Why do I fish? Man-- I was raised on Western PA and always loved the outdoors. I hunted and trapped, but didn't like killing things. Fishing became my "excuse" for getting out in the woods! And not just for the fish! Half the time I came home with my creel empty, but with a pocketful of fiddlehead ferns to eat, some puffball or oyster mushrooms, the vision of the Blue Heron I surprised, or just the smell of early Spring skunk cabbage in my nostrils. Fishing has led me to fly tying, lure making, old lure collecting, and has made me many friends and probably saved me many times from "crashing" from the toils of everyday. Someone said once that "Every man needs a pursuit to which he can devote his full effort, but in which the end result is unimportant". Yep, I love to fish, but whether I catch anything or not is but a very small part of the story. Best---- JoeW

Fishing is something I started doing when I was really small. I do many activities outdoors which are Fishing, Picking mushrooms, Picking Huckleberries, Camping, Hunting, and Hiking in the forest sometimes.

When outdoors alone, you get to know yourself better and you start thinking deeper.

Careful RAK! If you start thinking too deep, you might get in over your waders! LOL! Sorry, just a little fun. Best---- JoeW

I fish to get even with my ole man. Ya see, back when I was a young'n he tricked me by telling me I was finally old enuff to fish out of a boat, so we get to the lake and he row'd out a few hundred yards. Turns out this wasnt a fishin trip at all but rather a swimmin lesson. He picks me up and tossed me in the lake and hollered swim boy swim! Well, I managed to kick and paddle enough to stay on top for a few seconds then began to sink slowly, that when I felt him grab me by the seat of my trowsers and lift back in the boat.

As bad as it was for some strange reason I wanted jump back in swim some more, lol. But what I really wanted to do after that is to teach that ole man a lesson and I would become a better fisherman than him. So saying all that to say this I starting fishing every chance I got to get even with him. Fishing became a way of life for me and over the years getting even with my pa faded away. I can say today that I love to fish but more so swim like one too.

Because my wife doesn't...

Joking aside, its a great excuse to spend a lot of time in the outdoors and going to new places to try my luck.

I fish because as far back as I can remember my Dad used to take me fishing. But here is the catch my Dad used to hook a fish and let me real it in. So you guys know that pull on the rod is really addicting. Ever since I can remember I have been addicted. Addicted is a understatement. I fish more than anyone I know of in SoCal. It is really addicting and the doctors say there is only one cure FISHING!!!!:) YES

Ha ha ha! I always heard it- "Fishing is a disease for which fortunately, there is NO cure." I love it, too, and all aspects I can get in to that has anything to do with fishing! From collecting old lures, to fly tying, to writing stories about it, to making lures, to ... well, the list could go on forever. Good post! But I never set the hook for my two kids! Heck, if they were going to have the fun of playing them they were going to have to hook there own! Best---- JoeW

My kids would be in front of the TV all day if they could. If your kids are like mine then you should fish to get the kids outdoors and spend some quality time with them. I want my kids to love the outdoors as much as I love it.

Because we didn't have crack and Nintendo back when I was a kid and the high you get from hauling a big ole fish out is better than anything a drug cartel could ever come up with. :D Seriously Fishing is about being outdoors in fresh air having fun enjoying the wonderful things God intended for us.
