View Full Version : Cool Vintage Washington State Salmon Plug
Thought you people on the West Coast would like this one! I just picked it up at an antique mall here in Western NY! It's wooden with painted pressed eyes and in a color I would call Blue Herring? Marked on the belly "Velez 4 1/2 Silver Streek". What little info I could find dates it to 1933. There were many, many wooden Salmon plugs made in Washington around that time, and believe it or not- all of them are collectible, especially if in their 2-pc cardboard boxes! I know a few collectors who specialize in old West Coast Salmon lures and have collections of them numbering into the hundreds! Not a lot is known about their history or manufacture. Check your tackle boxes- you may be fishing with an "antique"! Enjoy the pic. Best---- JoeW

Ah, now this one is starting to look more familiar. The silver and light blue colors resemble much of our freshwater fish such as the silver kokanee, rainbow trout, and other types of salmon. Orange and yellow is a very common bait color for freshwater fish. Silver streek doesn't ring a bell, so my only guess is that it's just another brand name.
Very cool!
That is a lure that would attract salmon!
I think I might have some vintage lures. I will take a look and post what I have.
They did catch Salmon, that's why so many companies made them back in the 1930-50's! Many, if not most, have the same basic design- fat cigar shape with a slanted or cupped mouth to give it "action" in the water. The modern "J-plug" still follows that design!
Yea, post some pics of your old tackle! That's what this forum is all about. Questions? ID help? I always enjoy looking at old tackle! I'll be looking forward to it! Best---- JoeW
