:confused:I need some advice on the type of line I should use please. The one kit, I use for rainbow and the other I use for pike, pickeral etc. Neither of my reels are casting well at all. One is a QUantum and the other is a Cardinal 3. What line types and weights should I use for the best performance?

Thanks in advance

Depends on what Model Cardinal3 you have. First model C300ui5 line specs are 4 pound test line and it holds 100 yards of line. 2nd model 6 pound line holds 110 yards.....

Ahhhhh! Got it! lol
I have been in contact with Garcia to order some pieces for it and the model is 84-0. I'll have to look tomorrow at the Quantum. it's late here. Will post model tomorrow.

You're talking open face spinning reels? Four most common reasons for poor casting: 1. spool is underfilled with line. When held upside down, the line should "almost" fall off the spool. 2.On spinning reels, make sure the line comes off the new line spool in the same direction that it goes on the reel spool. i.e. If the line winds on the reel spool counterclockwise, it should come off the new line spool counter clockwise. 3. Make sure to wind on the new line under tension. Run the line through the pages of a thick book as you put it on. 4.poor quality, stiff line that comes off the reel in big coils. I use Trilene XL for anything under 14 lb test, which should get you through most of your fishing. 14 pound test and over (bigger fish), try Trilene XT, although for that weight line, I actually prefer a baitcasting outfit.
Nothing's better than a smooth running and smooth casting reel, and nothing's worse than one that isn't! Best----- JoeW

Thanks so much for the information! Will buy new line today. I used the Cardinal 3 most so will just get line for it for now. Winter is almost upon us. Oh yay! :(

The other reel is a Zebco/Quantum Long Stroke SS3.
