Ok, I've posted this on another site and thought I'd throw it out here also. There are two items I'm lusting for but alas, only one will be allowed to accompany me home. One is definitely fishing related, the other not, but I have interests other than fishing.
Anyway, ultimate cost will be about equal once the canoe is restored and ultimate value will probably be near equal with perhaps a slight advantage going to the canoe.

As the title of the post asks, which one and why?

Here are the links

Ha ha ha! Boy, life can be tough, eh sharps! Real difficult question, kinda like me deciding whether to buy a Chippewa Minnow or a Chapman Bass Bait! Maybe you need a part-time job and get both!

Seriously- I picture you sitting in that vintage canoe, casting flies with that classic old fly tackle you have, and catching trout (or Bass or Panfish)!

I got my money on you ending up with the canoe! A shotgun is a shotgun, but a canoe is..... a CANOE! Have fun! Best---- JoeW

I'm picking canoe as I would get more use out of it since fishing is a year round proposition here in the desert, and hunting is seasonal. I also can't do all the walking that is required in hunting anymore. The canoe would be great for fishing alone without having to launch and recover my fishing boat as well.

As with the shotgun, I have an Old Towne 169 Discovery canoe so getting it to use isn't so much the issue. It's the fact that it's old, classic and as Joe so often says, "it has a story to tell". I would probably sell the Old Towne once I got the canvas canoe restored.....and even though I have a friend who regularly uses his canvas canoe on our rocky Ozark streams I would be as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockers worrying that I was going to rip the bottom canvas to shreds. I'll probably end up flipping a coin then not going with the coin toss...lol!

I didn't look at the links before. After looking, I'm with Mo65, that hammer action shot gun is fine! I'm changing my mind. Shotgun.

I have boat hoarding issues, and that is a Sweet ride.
The shotgun is a Beautiful piece of work.
Find a way to do both.
Hard choice.........

SHOT GUN !!!! Easier to carry than the canoe . Better resale value . No self respecting snake is going to live over it on the bank or in the water .

Well, the canoe lost out. I called the friend who has restored a similar canoe and he said he would be interested if I didn't want it. It didn't take Scott long either!!!!! He's picking it up tomorrow. Haven't begun negotiations on the shotgun yet.

Well I hope everything works out for you. That sure is one nice shotgun.
I would have had to gone for the shotgun as well.
It did not look like it would need as much work as the canoe did.LOL
Good Luck.

Myself, I'd go for the canoe.

Why, you ask?

'Cause the Merkel has the cheekpiece on the wrong side of the stock shrug

Well, I ended up with neither. I sent a friend of mine the info on the canoe and he bought it to restore. I waited too long to pull the trigger on the double. That's ok, it didn't have damascus barrels and there'll be another down the line.

I guess you could say.
This was a lot like fishing!! Better luck next time !!
either of them would have been a nice item to have. But something better is around
the corner.
