Well. When I bought my boat 5 years ago the winch was pretty bad. I replaced it with one from Harbor Freight. It was obviously rated to low for my boat as I sheared off the locking pin while loading the boat on the trailer within a few fishing trips. I went with a 2000 pound rated winch which lasted 3 years. Last month while loading the boat, the pin sheared off that winch too. That's 3 winches in 5 years! So now I've decided I'm done with hand crank winches and I'm purchasing a Superwinch LT2000 electric winch. This has wire cable instead of nylon strap and a remote control handset to operate the winch. Plus it has a large locking bolt instead of the puny pin on all the hand winches I've seen. I also won't need to stand waist deep in cold water to winch the boat on the trailer during winter fishing trips. I think I'll be happier with this instead of the hand winch. I've found a supplier online with a purchase price of $89.99. Most good quality hand winches cost that much or more, and Superwinch has a superb reputation. So, what are your thoughts?

It sure beats the winch I use to have on my trailer.
It was all me. I would get the boat guided the right way, then I would go to the back of the boat
and finish pushing it up the trailer.
I hated loading my boat that way, but at the time I wasnt smart enough
to buy a winch.
Good luck with this one.

I've thought about one of those for my old SmokerCraft. It's got rollers so I get to crank the boat all the way up. My bass boat has bunks so I drive up the trailer all but the last 3 or 4 feet. I think I'd rather have a nylon strap than a cable, but I like the idea of remote control. I hear ya about standing waist deep on the launch during the winter months. I usually perch myself on the tongue and try not to fall off into the freezing water.
