I haven't ice-fished in years, and when I did, it was with a spud, and a tarp set up on 5 wooden poles that you dug holes for in the ice with the spud. Whew-- red faces, numb toes, purple fingers! Ah, the good old days!
Anyhow--- one "tip" I had learned from a real old timer was to take Uncle Ben's rice, throw it into a container with some water before you left. Then when all set up, sprinkle some of the soaked rice down the hole. Repeat every few minutes. Seems like the rice slowly drift down, being white it shows up in the dark water, and thusly attracts the fish who come in for free chow! the only times we caught Jumbo Perch on Lake Erie was chumming them in with the rice!
If you have any luck trying this. let me know- it worked here! Best------ JoeWshrug
