Here are some wonderful walleye tips I decided to share.

1. Jigging

Try dragging the jig along the bottom, popping it up and then letting it fall until it almost reaches bottom. In the morning, Use a brown colored grub. In the afternoon, use a white grub so the fish can see it better. It will increase your chances of catching walleye. On your electric motor, Move until you can find an underwater edge. walleye like to be in spots such as these. On a river, always try to find a spot where the water is muddy. Walleye like to act as if they are unnoticeable.

2. Trolling.

A good tip for trolling is to have a Depth finder so you can see the underwater Layout of where you are trolling. If you cannot find the fish, Do an "S" shape from the shore until you reach the deeper parts of a river or lake. When you are trolling, Use a Bottom Walker and a Wedding Ring (wedding ring colors vary during the time of day)

In the morning: PINK WEDDING RING

DURING THE DAY: RED WEDDING RING

AFTERNOON: GREEN WEDDING RING

You can also try different colors too!

You can buy Grubs from Mr.Twister they work really well.

Glad to see your post- I've never had much luck trolling for walleyes! I usually use the depth finder to find likely spots (as you said- edges, feeding shelves, deep water leading to shallow, humps, etc. But then I've drifted and cast to them. What's a wedding ring? And everyone keeps mentioning "tubes"? I've never had luck using them! I always use plastic minnow or crayfish trailers, or live bait. What am I missing? Thanks for the post. Best---- JoeW

This is what tubes are...

They are mostly used for smaller fish like crappie, perch, and bluegill. One time, I caught two walleye on a red tube but its not like its a popular lure for walleye... Although I think there are some larger sizes you can use for walleye.

i figured out those weed edges a while back,it is a really good tip to use your trolling motor, ive used the gas until my buddy asked me if i might try the electric.when we went to the electric we increased our catch 10 fold.

I looked up a "Bottom walker". One sight had a swivel, sinker fastened to a float and twin wires with swivels where U can put the hooks on. Other sites had plastic weighted minnows with a single vertical hook. Which type do U use?

I'm not much of a walleye fisherman, but have a buddy in Wyoming that is. I've meen out with him several times - first couple of seasons, we "bottom bounced", using worms or leaches - usually caught pretty well. Then he started learning how to troll. Last summer I made a trip with him trolling - using jigs like the ones above with a tail, and added a leach of piece of worm to the hook. Caught nothing for quite a while. Then a breeze picked up and we got a light "chop" to the water - the wallys went nuts! Tore them up - I LIKE TROLLING WITH JIGS! Here's a shot of one of the nicer ones we caught..

I love Walleye fishing but maybe it is just me but it seems very sketchy. I can go out one day and limit out in 15 minuts and the next day never get a bite. I never have had consistent luck with Walleyes. I normally fish bluegill, crappie, perch, and bass and no matter what the weather or water temp I can usually find fish and catch them. IF any of you guys live in the Eastern part of Wisconsin and are good at walleye fishing and wouldn't mind giving out some advice about Greenbay, Winnebago, or any of the other good walleye waters in the area I would appreciate it. I would gladly pitch in some money of anyone needs someone to go out with them on a trip, I can't never get anyone to go with me anymore.

Agreed. Walleye are very unpredictable.

I think mainly because they travel in schools and they have a big territory! They're either there, or they ain't! (Sounds like Yogi Berra!). I fish a certain bay that's a mile across, and there are three, what I call "feeding shelves" that walleyes visit. All of them are wide flats, 10-14 feet deep (nice casting depth), and border shallower water on one side and much deeper water on the other. They can be near shore, off shore, on "humps" in mid-lake or mid-river. We fish one shelf (usually using rattle traps), if no fish, we move to the second, then the third shelf. If still no walleyes, we always figure they're "somewhere in between"! Tough to find! Trolling might run into them, but I was never a big fan of trolling, so we go hunting for smallies or pike for awhile, then hit the three shelves again.
I don't know if this applies to you, but on any water with walleyes, I always start by looking for those feeding shelves! OR, talk with someone who already knows where these shelves ARE! Good luck. Best---- JoeW
