Thank YOU to those that have served , are presently serving and those who plan to serve. I salute you !
IT IS THE SOLDIER
It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

I too served in the USAF from 1972 to 1975. As an old airman I saw an awe inspiring sight this afternoon. Phoenix had one of the nations largest Veteran's Day parades today and part of the event was a fly over of a B-17 Flying Fortress and a B-24 Liberator. They both flew directly over my house three times this afternoon over a period of about 20 minutes. It was so soul stirring I nearly cried.

Wow b or b!!!! Somethin', ain't they! Maybe 20 years ago they had an air show at the little Jeff. City, Mo. air port and had a couple P-51's and one B-17. I didn't get to go but did the B-17 fly over Jeff. at about 500 ft. Man, what a racket and what a site. Havn't been that fortunate regarding the B-24 or B-29. There's some guy who keeps his P-51 at the Rolla airport and we get to see it occasionally. Really, really cool birds.

I have read or heard that there is only one flying B-17 in the U.S., don't know for sure if that is fact. I occasionally see P-51s, P-38s, F4Us, F8Fs, etc. (once a year) flying in and out of Deer Valley Airport just north of my home. Love the sound of those old propeller aircraft, especially those radial engines.

Yup, those big ol' round motors have a sound all their own. Unmistakeable once you hear them.
I thought the Confederate Air Force had a few flying B-17's, no?
You've seen more WW II vintage aircraft than I've been blessed to have seen. Good fer you!

Yeah, I love those WWII aircraft. My uncle was a fighter pilot in WWII and later became a flight trainer. Went on to become a Pan-Am pilot flying the globe in Lockheed Constellations. He also owned Beechcraft Bonanzas and Travel Airs.
