OK- daughters both want a GPS for Christmas. Wifey and I know nothing about them. What can you do with them? How do you use it? Which brand do you recommend. I'm hoping for around $100? I tell you- I have a cell phone and don't even know how to use THAT- is was free! I use it for a watch when I take it fishing! Appreciate any and all help on a GPS! Thanks--- Bedst---- JoeW :(

I have a Magillian, have had it over 4 years with out any problems.
I had 2 other brands and both died with in the first 30 days I had them.
I would go for ether a Magillian or a Garmin.
All the people I know who own these brands have never had any problems with them.
Keep an eye on the sells ads. Christmas is comming and everyone will have them on sell
many for $100.00 or less.
If your daughters only want them for driving instructions, how to get from point A to point B then
one of the less expencive one should fit their need.
they are very easy to operate way easer then programing a VCR. LOL

I have a Garmin that my wife bought me 2 years ago when I went to Wyoming to visit my father. It's GREAT. I even use it when I'm going to the lakes that I know the route because it shows what's coming up ahead on the road as far as turns are concerned and gives me a heads up on tight curves so I can slow down and be prepared for someone crossing the centerline with their boat trailer. I also get completely lost anytime I have to go to any of the communities on the east side of Phoenix and this baby really helps me out there. The booklet that comes with it makes it VERY easy to use and understand the unit. You'll love it. My two cents

OK- settled on Magellan. One more question-= Is it worth an extra $20 to get the "instant live traffic reports" feature? Does it work? Thanks again- best--- JoeW Oh yea- do they have a map for "secret fishing spots"?

If they are going to be doing a lot of driving,Esp in areas of high traffic then
maybe the traffic update would be nice to have.
I live in a rual ag. area and the local news channel keeps me up dated to traffic
problems. So I do not have it. Then again I do not think it was an option
when I got my GPS. I do not think I would today if I was to buy a new unit.
I do not know if it would have the location of any special fishing spot.
there is a point of intrest and if you put in the name of a lake or river the unit will give you
directios to the lake.
However it will not tell you where the fish are or what they are hitting on.
If there was a unit that could do this, I'd buy 2 of them LOL

Thanks cwd and all of you! Kids do rush hour-Buffalo Ny traffic, so that traffic update would be nice. Plus for the $20 upgrade, I get "free lifetime map updates"? Bigger screen? and a free windsheild holder? Wow! All that for $139 at Best Buy.com!

This tech world passed me by years ago! I miss the old rotary dials phones! Thanks all. Best---- JoeW

I have Garmin and don't even know if they offer the traffic feature, but I also have Sirius Satellite Radio, and they have traffic updates every 8 minutes on their traffic channels so I wouldn't need it from Garmin anyhow. Glad you got a "navigator" and I know you'll enjoy it.
