I'm attempting to make a pumpkinseed look alike how big are they mine is ending up about 2" long
Hi jg--- Heddon Piunkinseeds came in all sizes from fly-rod, up to 2 1/2 inches. Your 2" is a good size. Interestingly, the earliest "seeds" had the line tie on the chin, just below the mouth. Shortly after that, Heddon started putting the linetie IN the mouth! Better action? Less turning over? And BTW, the wooden one's they made were weighted in the belly. The later plastic ones didn't need that weight, I guess. Boy, it must be tough for you guys to get them balanced so they float and dive right! Man, that is nice carving on the lure! Wanna see it when it's done! Best----- joeW

Really looks good. What type of wood are you using and what kind of hardware will you use on this. What colors do you plan on?

OK, here is another old lure I throw occasionally. Mine is a wooden one with a metal lip in a silvery bluegill color.

Your coming along pretty darn good. Maybe you and Dave can hook up and have a carving session . Couple rocking chairs, a rick of balsa wood and a table full of knives . Look like snow with all those chips flying. Man I went and said that cold four letter word .

I took a look at mine today. It is a Heddon Tiny Pumpkinseed, 2 1/4" long, painted in a silver bluegill finish. It is wooden with the metal bill and the line attachment is below the mouth as JoeW described. It is in nearly new condition. Value JoeW?
OK, ready for this? You threw me a curve ball! Is it marked on the belly "Tiny Punkinseed" or "Tiny Piunkinseed Spook"? Does it have what looks like little bell-shaped cups for hook hangers? The line tie for these was always under the mouth. If so, it's plastic (circa 1959- 1960's). Heddon did not make the "Tiny" in wood. It would be 1 3/4" long not counting any of the metal hardware. Value- $20-25 in EX condition! There are also new, overseas rip-off being made- they are worth about half that amount.
Now, if it IS wooden, it could be a much earlier "seed", circa 1940- 1950's. They would be 2 1/4 - 2/12" long. They would be marked on the belly just "heddon Pinkinseed" or "Punkinseed Floater" or "Punkinseed Sinker". Makes a big difference because the vaue for these range from $40- more, depending on condition, color, line tie location, etc. Some wooden ones can be worth, well, a couple hundred.
Heddon DID make a Bluegill pattern, but it was a dark olive color. they also made a "silvery" Shad color, which is much more scarce. Boy, a pic of the lure laying next to a ruler would help!
Tough to tell without seeing a pic, but at any rate, I don't think I'd be out fishing with it, especially if it's in nice shape! Like to hear more about it! Love those old-timers! Best----- JoeW

I'll post a photo when I can. It does say Heddon Tiny Punkinseed on the belly, has the bell shaped metal pieces on the hook hangers, and is a silvery color with subtle bluegill coloration, not shad colored. I have had this since the early 60's. Don't remember how I aquired it.
OK- #380 Heddon Tiny Punkinseed it is. Plastic, 1959-1970's. Gold eye is earliest, then cream colored eye. Good ones worth $25 or so in easy to find colors, more for less common colors. I don't think I'd be fishing a lure worth that much! Wish i had been real keen on Punkinseeds back in the sixties and would have bot a couple dozen! Good one. Here's a couple pics of Bluegill color, and shad. Have fun--- Best---- JoeW
